Brief Description of Job Duties
The overall goal of my position is to conduct applied and basic research and to develop extension programming in livestock nutrition, primarily beef cattle.
Areas of Specialization
General: Livestock nutrition and swine production.
Specific:
- Evaluation of alternative feeds and forages for livestock
- Evaluation of various forage systems for grazing by growing beef cattle
- Management and nutrition strategies for swine reared under hot and humid conditions
- Improving feed efficiency in beef cattle
Research
My initial research was mostly with pigs, heading up the swine research program at NFREC Marianna. In the late 1990's, the swine program was phased out. At the same time, land was acquired next to the existing Marianna NFREC for a consolidated beef cattle research unit. Presently, my research program emphasis is mostly with beef cattle.
