Pete Vergot, III

Northwest District Extension Director

Biography

As the District Extension Director for the University of Florida/IFAS Extension, Northwest District, Dr. Pete Vergot works with the Dean of Extension, Dr. Larry Arrington. His major assignments include County Operations of Extension programs through the Northwest Extension District network of county offices and has statewide assignments of internationalizing extension and information technologies.

Dr. Vergot works closely with the 16 County Extension Directors in Northwest Florida. He attends workshops and conferences throughout Florida and out-of-state, including the AAAE, NETC, AIAEE and FAEP.

Dr. Vergot grew up on a fruit and vegetable farm in southwest Michigan, where he was active in FFA and high school sports while working on the farm. He received his Bachelors of Science degree from the Michigan State University (1976), and began teaching Vocational Agriculture in Van Buren County of Michigan (1976-1983); while working on his Masters of Arts from Michigan State University (1980). Dr. Vergot served Michigan State University as an Agricultural Extension Agent and County Extension Director in Van Buren County in Southwest Michigan (1983-1997) while working on his Ph.D. from Michigan State University (1991).

Dr. Vergot came to University of Florida/IFAS Extension in 1997 and was appointed as International Programs liaison in 2002.
