Dr. Mathews L. Paret

Assistant Professor

Dr. Paret research interests include developing integrated plant disease management strategies for diseases of economic relevance in vegetable and ornamental crops, detection and characterization of plant pathogens and understanding the etiology and epidemiology of plant diseases. The goal of the program is to develop new technologies and approaches for sustainable production of vegetable and ornamental crops in the United States and globally. Current research areas include development and testing of antimicrobial nanoparticles for plant disease management; grafting of vegetables for disease management; Integrated Pest Management for managing fungicide/bactericide resistance using integration of cultural practices, host resistance, systemic acquired resistance inducers, oxidizers, biological control agents and chemical fungicides; and detection and characterization of emerging plant pathogenic bacteria, fungi and viruses.
