Dr. Patrick J. Minogue
Our Extension effort is closely integrated with our research program and focuses on two main program areas, forest vegetation management (silviculture, invasive plant management, and wildfire mitigation) and alternative forest crops for new income opportunities (pine straw production, Eucalyptus for fiber and bioenergy), to provide:
- leadership and educational support to county Extension faculty across north and central Florida through multi-county in-service training, field days, Forest Stewardship Program meetings, research and demonstration plot tours, and individual consultations;
- technical support to private landowners seeking solutions to forest management problems through workshops, phone and email consultations, on-site visits, and our extension websites;
- guidance to Florida Forest Service county foresters and Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission wildlife biologists in support of their assistance to non-industrial private forest landowners;
- direct support to forest industry and the bioenergy industry to promote sustainable forest management and protection of water quality.
