Dr. Gary W. Knox

I have no formal, traditional teaching responsibilities. However, I am actively teaching through four venues:

  • Horticulture technology training for inmates to reduce recidivism: Since January 2011 I have been teaching horticulture to inmates from the Gadsden County (FL) jail. The goal of this project is to reduce recidivism by providing horticulture technology training that can lead directly to career opportunities for inmates upon release.
  • Gardens of the Big Bend is a botanical/teaching garden that is the focus of outreach/teaching to youth, students, Green Industry professionals and residents.
  • I participate in graduate teaching and occasionally lecture in undergraduate classes.

My Extension outreach is a form of teaching to non-traditional students (see "Extension"). Annually I reach more than 1,000 participants directly via teaching presentations or workshops.
